Why This Site?

Why are you viewing this site?
We hope it's because you have an interest in understanding the various choices available to the transportation consumer and why, in the face of increasing regional population, traffic congestion, escalating fuel prices and renewed social awareness, the "re-inventing" of rail-based modes now seems not only relevant but highly practical and desirable.

There are a number of documents in which we feel you may be interested. Although the entire collection resides on the original Regional Light Rail Project site, InlandRail has assembled some selected documents that we think are especially important as you review the history of the Light Rail Vision. Please see the navigation pane to the left.

You should also check out the STA Board's final decision, to understand why InlandRail feels compelled to action. Indeed, InlandRail believes the region's citizens were not well served by the STA Board's short-sighted determination. We invite you to browse our site in order to gain what we hope will be an informed perspective of what role rail-based transportation modes — particularly light rail transit — can, and should play in the overall regional mobility choices for all citizens. Indeed, as oil prices soar and Leadership continues to avoid difficult zoning and land-use decisions and refuses to enact effective energy policies, high capacity modes of mobility will evolve from being merely "nice" or "quaint" to "obvious" and "necessary".

What InlandRail hopes to accomplish
Educate and advocate—that's the bottom line. The original Regional Light Rail Project site provides a wealth of information regarding the original light rail study. Frankly, however, this glut of information can be totally overwhelming. Therefore, at InlandRail's site we will cull and focus upon specific, important information, and then interpret and explain that information for you in a manner that we hope will enhance your understanding of the "nuts and bolts" of the Light Rail Vision.

Unfortunately, the information on the original Regional Light Rail Project site was current only through December, 2006 at which time the STA Board "pulled the plug" on the project. Consequently, we intend to continue from that date, presenting timely, relevant information we hope will not only prove interesting and informative but will also embolden the region to think beyond "now" and plan for the future by embracing the rail-based initiative, especially light rail transit.
